Typical costs:

• According to Consumer Reports[1] , economy cribs cost $100-$150; mid-priced cribs, $150-$450; and high-end ones, $450+.

• Parents will need to purchase a crib mattress, which ranges from $30-$230.

• Some cribs convert to a toddler or full-size bed, though bed rails, stabilizing or support rails will likely be required.
• Though second-hand cribs are not recommended, if you're considering acquiring one, Consumer Reports suggests checking the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission[2] or Recalls.gov[3] for possible recalls.

• According to Consumer Reports[4] a crib can be one of the most challenging purchases for new parents. They recommend looking for a crib made after 1999 that's certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association[5] or certified to meet American Society for Testing and Materials'[6] voluntary standards. They should be durable and safe and suit both your taste and budget.
• Established brands include Angel Line[7] , Babi Italia[8] , Baby's Dream[9] , Child Craft, Dorel Juvenile Group (Cosco), and Simmons.
• On Sep 21, 2007, one million cribs by Simplicity, sold under the Simplicity and Graco labels, were recalled. The affected models are model numbers are available at the US Consumer Product and Safety Comission[10] .
• Amazon[11] offers pages of cribs, including Angel Line models[12] .
• Wal-Mart offers a variety of cribs[13] from $100-$300.
• Other retailers include JC Penney and Sears[14] .
